Betar Bangla is a pioneering radio station dedicated to Bengalis in London, providing them with news, music and entertainment. As the only station in the UK, which broadcast programmes in Bengal and Sylheti community languages, we offer a platform which helps celebrate and voice the views of the diverse community to which it is committed.Established as a not-for-profit limited company, it aims to ‘establish communications, media training and learning networks comprising of community radio and multi-media dedicated to ethnic minority participation in the wider society’. We facilitate programmes, shows and training for a new style of Bengali presenters who are not afraid to research and .facilitate discussions on challenging issues for Bengalis and other communities in Britain and worldwide
Aims and Objectives of Betar Bangla :
Establish a media platform (primarily in radio and video) for the British-Bengali Community of East London.
·Establish a radio station and via securing a 24-hour AM/FM radio broadcasting license from Ofcom, run daily programmes to the British-Bengali community of East London.
Provide training access and opportunities for the Bengali speaking community living in Tower Hamlets and East End, with the aim to enhance media skills in Radio, TV and Film.
Establish a film production department (and film club) with the aim to enhance a cinema culture amongst the Bengali community.
Establish an audio-based recording studio for young people, with the aim to promote creativity and help market participants into employment.
Support government strategies toward community development – including community cohesion, community enlargement and decreasing hate-crime, drug-abuse and other illegal activities.
Encourage debate, promote socio-economic development and showcase Bengali culture and heritage.
Facilitate the fundamental human right as enshrined in “the Community Radio Charter for Europe.”
Encourage, wherever possible, the development and expression of “Voice” from all sections of the Black and Ethnic Minority communities.
Develop intergenerational strategies through cultural cohesion and media information, tackling issues on Health, Education, Housing, Employment and Welfare Rights.
